Alastair
and Sarah Jones report on what ALOVE Central North
got up to this summer. Plus – read the summer
school diaries – compiled by ALOVE Central
North’s very own Roving Reporters …
Students at the first half of the Central North
Summer School spent a fantastic week together
considering what it means to live life for God
with a focused purpose and what it means to use
every avenue of life to worship God. The teaching
encompassed the four essentials of ALOVE - worship,
discipleship, social action and mission.
As well as the weeklong options, the students
had a special one-day option, when an enthusiastic
group spent their time cleaning up an area of
Oldham for the community there. Another group
learnt DJ skills with DJ Doug Ross, who then hosted
an evening of worship for the whole school.
The exciting thing is that the second half is
still to come - at the end of August many of the
students will be returning to take part in 4 days
of practical mission in the Cheetham Hill area
of Manchester. In the meantime the best way to
understand the week is by catching a glimpse of
the passion that the students have for God …
in their own words …
"Even though this is a summary of the week
I experienced, I think its great to know that
there is a generation of youth in this world who
still are up for God and have a passion to make
his name known, to just live for him. Going to
things like summer school can be a great way to
know new people, and new understanding of God
and who he is and the only way you can do that
is by just going to something like summer school
and give it a try." Martin
"To round things off we had a late night
epilogue in which, I had time to meet with God
again and tell him how my day had gone. So all
in all central north summer school 2004 was a
really good experience for me. It was so good
because I met new friends but also I grew in my
relationship with God." Laura
"On Friday morning we were given strips of
wire to mould to symbolise our lives. Our cell
group became really emotional at this time and
I learnt a lot from what people said about their
spiritual lives, during this time. Summer school
2004 and a week that has quite possibly changed
my life forever! It’s the week has completed
both my life and my relationship with God."
