The Salvation Army
is urging people to sign a key petition this week
to push the Government to protect children and
young people from the dangers of Gambling on fruit
machines. The petition is designed to put additional
pressure on the Government ahead of next week's
committee stage in the House of Lords.
You are also encouraged to write to members of
the House of Lords - details on how are also available.
Hard copies can be downloaded as well as briefing
papers on children and gambling.
As long as a child is tall enough to put their
money in the slot they can play category D fruit
machines. Around 5% of British adolescents can
be classified as 'problem gamblers' - more than
five times the adult prevalence of problem gambling.
Britain is the only country in the developed world
that allows children to gamble.
How to get involved:
1|
If you have
the permission of your parent/guardian,
why not get as many people in your local
community to sign the petition.
2|
Print off the
hard copy and take it in your church/school/workplace
and ask people to sign up.
3|
Phone The Salvation
Army Press Office on 0845 054 8868 on Tuesday
8th March and tell us how many names you have
so far.
4|
You can continue
collecting signatures until 18th March but
we need to know how many you have so far by
Tuesday 8th.
5|
Then send your
completed petition forms to: Kathryn Hill,
Salvation Army Press Office, 101 Newington
Causeway, London SE1 6BN.
