Discipleship: Getting Into Jesus and His Community ...

Discipleship is key to ALOVE because it mirrors the priorities of Jesus in the gospels. Jesus didn’t spend time building churches; rather he spent his time in community, calling and training disciples. It was these disciples that founded the church. Sharing their time and lives with Jesus and learning from him was enough to change the world.

This is the heart of discipleship within ALOVE; that through community, we might kindle in each other a character that is more like Jesus both individually and collectively; that we might empower one another to build church.

An ideal environment in which to build such community is often through a cell group. Cell groups are not a strange, cultic, modern invention. Rather they echo the model of Jesus and the early church in offering a forum for a small community of friends to spend time thinking and engaging with God and his word.

Cells (and other forms of discipleship) offer the chance to enjoy Jesus and his church. They offer us the chance to live in family with Jesus; to learn, to teach, to pray, to praise, to meet, to eat, to love, to laugh, to reach our friends and change our communities. Cells are not for attention deficient spectators. They are for life-affirming participators looking to engage.
